Moon

They warned me not to chase the Moon-goddess of the night sky, protector of the stars.
Her face is light, masking the darkness, much like me.
We are mystery,
wrapped in shadow and light.
Her smile knows my name, leaves me with a heaviness that gravity cannot fix.
Inconstant Moon…
constantly taunting me with your unending power.
You shine,
and I bloom beneath you, feral and raw.
But you hide, and I wither,
each phase unraveling me,
reminding me that nothing stays forever.
They say not to chase you, but how could I not?
You are every woman I’ve ever been;
tender and terrible.
In your darkness, I disappear.
In your light, I find myself again.
Some nights I curse you, for reminding me how much I feel, how much I change.
But still, I am a daughter of your pull.
You are not mine to hold but I am yours, bound to your orbit, forever chasing and becoming.
